Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for pain relief

Acupuncture has been proved to be a very effective and safe tool for the management of acute and chronic pain. In 1997, the National Institute of Health conducted an extensive examination of the scientific efficacy of acupuncture, and found clear evidence backing the effectiveness of acupuncture as a treatment that reduces chronic pain and inflammation, enhances circulation, improves endocrine and immune function, and reduces stress. Acupuncture was found to be very helpful as a supplemental or alternative approach for many conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, low back pain, menstrual cramps, myofascial pain, osteoarthritis, and tennis elbow.

Acupuncture is a holistic method of promoting the body to increase its own natural healing and to improve overall functioning. Acupuncture clears the blockage of vital energy (qi) within pathways in the body. These pathways are called meridians and each is linked to a specific organ or organ system. Acupuncture is as effective as, or even works better than conventional drug therapies because it treats the cause and effect of pain. The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the body to produce natural steroids and release endorphins. Steroids decrease inflammation, while endorphins inhibit pain. These products are 50 to 100 times more potent in pain relief than many prescription drugs, and play an integral part in the elimination of the pain.

Our Services:

Mr. Jiang will offer comprehensive initial consultation and carefully review your case history. An individualized treatment plan will be developed for you. The plan will consider the nature and source of the pain, i.e., chronic, radiating, result of injury, frequency, etc., as well as your personal medical history. Different treatment points may be used for different types of pain. Acupuncture does not provide a one-size-fits-all, instant cure for pain suffers. It takes time to restore your body’s energy systems to their properly balanced state. The actual number of treatments you need will depend upon several factors including how long you have been suffering from pain, the cause and nature of the pain as well as how quickly you respond to treatment. Many of our patients have noticed the effectiveness of treatment within the first 3-5 sessions; others have had severe pain, swelling and stiffness significantly relieved by the time they have experienced 6-10 acupuncture treatments. For acute pain, even one or two treatments can be very helpful. More treatment may be required to control the pain from malignancies or progressive disorders.
